Chiropractic Treatments

WHY SHOULD I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

At Arrowhead Clinics, we have focused on treating accident victims for nearly 40 years and are leaders in this field. We have grown to 17 chiropractic clinic locations in Georgia and South Carolina.

Our licensed chiropractic doctors deal with injuries related to car accidents, motorcycle accidents, truck accidents, slip and falls, work-related injuries, and much more. We also offer same-day appointments for injured patients that require a walk-in exam.

Our goal is to quickly and effectively treat you and get you back on track. After your consultation, your chiropractor will assess your problem areas with a multi-approach diagnosis. They will then go over a treatment plan with you. You can expect to receive a combination of treatments.

Let's go over in more detail what these treatments involve if you are new to chiropractic.

Chiropractic Treatments Offered at Arrowhead Clinic

THE DIVERSIFIED TECHNIQUE

The Diversified Technique is a type of spinal manipulation technique. This technique aims to ensure proper movement and mobility by restoring spinal alignment and repairing joint disfunction. By using precise hands-on thrusts, chiropractors can restore spinal alignment and improve their patient’s range of motion. Approximately 96% of all chiropractors practice the Diversified Technique on roughly 70% of their patients.

Patients can sit, stand, or lie down while a chiropractor positions joints for movement. With a quick thrust, the injured area is pushed back into position, giving the patient a normal range of motion. In some cases, the body is positioned in an uncomfortable way to facilitate a shift in a more stubborn area.

MANUAL SPINAL MANIPULATION

Manual spinal manipulation, also called manual therapy or spinal mobilization, relieves pressure on joints, reduces inflammation, and improves overall nerve function. While spinal manipulation is a “manual therapy technique” and similar to the diversified technique above, it involves stretching and a gentler thrusting motion.

EXERCISE AND STRETCHING

Chiropractors generally prescribe strengthening and lengthening exercises for their patients with neck, back, and extremity pain.

These exercises help to decrease pain, increase strength, slow muscle deterioration, improve joint health, provide stability and range of motion, and protect against recurring or future injuries.

Your chiropractor will explain how to execute the exercises and make sure you are comfortable doing them independently.

It's essential to keep up with your prescribed exercises. Studies show that individuals who follow their exercise treatment plan heal faster than those who do not.

TRANSCUTANEOUS ELECTRIC NERVE STIMULATION (TENS)

A Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a small muscle stimulation machine used to help control pain. Varying intensities of electric current are used during therapy. TENS treatment is recommended for patients going through periods of severe nerve pain and is typically not recommended for ongoing chronic pain.

Your chiropractor will tailor your electric nerve stimulation therapy to your specific needs. There are different types of TENS therapy such as:

Interferential Current- Ultra-high-frequency to relieve deep-tissue tension, improve range of motion, and stop muscle spasms.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy- Burst pulses used for failed back surgery syndrome and osteoporosis since it promotes bone growth.

Galvanic Stimulation- A direct current to promote blood flow. Done for intense injuries caused by trauma and used to address the loss of balance with disorders such as vertigo or inner-ear issues.

ULTRASOUND THERAPY

Therapeutic ultrasound is a form of deep tissue heat therapy created by mechanical vibration increasing in frequencies, also known as sound waves.

When applied to soft joints and tissues, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that increases blood flow to the area, reducing swelling, and decreases pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms.

The sound waves travel bet through tissues with a higher collagen content such as scar tissue, ligaments, tendons, joints, and fascia.

THOMPSON-DROP TABLE TECHNIQUE

The Thompson Drop-Table Technique uses a unique table with padded platforms equipped with drop mechanisms so the patient can be "dropped" less than an inch while the chiropractor applies a quick and precise thrust to adjust parts of the body.

The dropping motion is similar to a light vibration.

The Thompson Table protects the patient from being overadjusted, and the chiropractor doesn't over-stress themselves while adjusting patients day in and day out.

THE GONSTEAD ADJUSTMENT

The Gonstead Adjustment is used to repair normal disc alignment and restore maximum movability. These techniques are applied with the patient sitting up or lying on their side.

Gonstead focuses on the body's structural foundation and does not provide "quick fixes." The chiropractor will do extensive testing on the spine to find precisely where the pain originates. Gonstead is a unique practice and requires an expert to administer.

THE ACTIVATOR METHOD

This method uses a small handheld device that administers a gentle, controlled vibration to the vertebrae and extremities. The chiropractor will use this device to target specific areas.

The Activator device is commonly used to treat back pain issues, headaches, and extremity pain. Because the vibration is so fast, the muscles will unlikely tense up and resist the treatment. This is why Activators are proven to be so effective.

the activator method potentially provides relief.

FLEXION DISTRACTION TECHNIQUE

The Flexion Distraction technique utilizes a unique table that gently stretches and bends the spine in a gentle motion. Decompression creates space between the discs and restores the spinal joints to their proper alignment.

The special table can be used for different sections of the back, pinpointing specific areas of pain. There are no quick thrusts with this technique.

This treatment is typically used for patients with disc injuries such as bulging discs and disc herniations.

ICE AND HEAT THERAPY

Ice and heat are very common but very effective in treating pain. Ice therapy restricts blood flow, reducing pain and decreasing swelling of the affected area.

Heat promotes blood flow which relaxes muscles snd stimulates healing. Heat is frequently used before a chiropractic adjustment.

SACRO OCCIPITAL TECHNIQUE

According to those who practice the Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), the pelvis is the foundation for proper spinal alignment. If the pelvis is aligned, then the nervous system will operate better.

For the adjustment, the chiropractor will place SOT blocks or wedges under the pelvis. Then they will realign the lower spine with gentle thrusts in the lumbar spine and coccyx. It is a gentle, safe practice that provides consistent results.
